DCP: Waiting....

My phone interview for the Disney College Program happened on Friday. They said I would hear back in 2-3 weeks but the anticipation is killing me!! I keep thinking of more things I should have said in my interview and I am worried I applied too late. Ahh I keep checking my email and dashboard almost every hour. I have also been constantly looking up info on the program, looking at youtube videoa by people who did it and reading other blogs. I should be busy with school this week so that should keep my mind off of it (probably not). For now I am crossing my fingers and wishing on a star that I am accepted!

Disney College Program

So I just applied to the Disney College Program 2 days ago. I filled out the application and submitted it and within the hour was emailed the web based interview to take. I passed that and within 45 minutes was sent the email to schedule a phone interview! It was so exciting!!! So I scheduled my interview and had it earlier today. I think it went well, we will see! I am nervous about applying so late (today was the last day to apply)! The woman on the phone said I would hear back in 2-3 weeks, so we will see!! My fingers are crossed! I applied for the Fall 2014 and Fall Advantage 2014 programs. Ahhhh I am so nervous to see if I got in!!! It would be so fun to work at Disney! I want to get in so I can take the Environmental Sustainability seminar class too. I will be graduating in May and I did not even know people graduating could participate in the program! I am SO thankful I decided to look up the program again on a whim to double check the requirements! Fingers crossed!!!!

Life Post: Divergent Movie Review

So Divergent was released this last Friday on Friday the 21st. After being a casual fan of the books, my sister and I set out to a late afternoon showing of the movie. We were the first ones in the theater, with a few older couples as well as a late teen couple straggling in as the previews started. I was surprised at how little people were in our theater for this highly anticipated movie. As we were leaving the theater, there was a crowd though so I was sure the movie would do well. This was proven by the fact that it made over $50 million during opening weekend.

On to the review!

So overall, I just thought the movie was OK. It was close to book, but it wasn't. It was fast paced, but it was slow. I don't know how to feel about it. It was not Catching Fire, a perfect book to movie adaption. There was little minor character development and the Dauntless initiation process was not explained or organized well; at points making it seem like the initiates were training how they pleased, instead of training by technique. Peter was never revealed as being the one to hang Tris over the canyon, he was not even made out to be as bad as he was in the book, at times there were even some funny moments with him in it. I wished they would have included Edward getting his eyeball stabbed out too. I wish all of the minor characters were more developed. I did enjoy the different action sequences; running and jumping on the train, the paintball/stun gun game (this change did not bother me so much), and the ziplining! The ziplining scene was fabulous! I loved how the zipline went through the different rundown buildings and I could not stop thinking about Allegiant. Allegiant is another whole topic for a different post though.

At times during the movie I felt like it was dragging on and nothing was happening, like scenes with Four and Tris. The fact that Tris did not once call Four Tobias throughout the entire movie bugs me so much! Also, there was no revelation by Tris as to Four's identity. At other times it felt like they were speeding through important moments, or moments they could have enhanced for the movie. I don't see the point as to why they left out some of Tris' fears during her test. I did like the 'fake out' where the audience thought it was over but it wasn't. The changed ending did not bother me either, but I am wondering how they are going to explain everything in the next movie Insurgent. The scene when Tris' mom died! That was so emotional and sad.

Overall the movie was just ok, something felt a little off about it, but it was not bad. I haven't read the book in a while so the details were not fresh in my head. This could have altered my view of the movie since I was not comparing every detail.

Final Review: I would probably see this movie again when it comes out on Redbox, DVD, on Demand, Netflix, but I don't think I will be buying it.

Did you see the movie? What did you think?

Weekend Trip Ideas: Nearby Big City

A great idea for a more fast paced weekend would be to take a trip to a nearby city! For me this would be NYC, Washington D.C, Baltimore, Philadelphia,Atlantic City or another city in the PA, NJ, Delaware, Virginia, or Maryland area. A weekend trip is long enough to settle in for a few days and get to see as much as possible. The possibilities are endless! You could see a show, visit museums, historical sites, a casino; go to the zoo or aquarium, visit high class and fancy restaurants, see the city lights at night.... If you go around the holidays, there are bound to be decorations everywhere! Especially around Christmas! Decorations=photo opportunities in my book!

Money Saving tip: Think long and hard before you spend

Do you really need that Starbucks coffee? Even buying one less a week will add up cash for you to save. Instead of spending it on a coffee, put that money in a jar. That way you 'spent' the money, but you are saving it for yourself for later. Everytime you almost buy something, put the money you would have spent away somewhere so you can save. A good tip is to cut back on things as much as possible Even 1 less trip to Starbucks or skip getting your nails done once, the money will add up! Do you really need all those subscription services? Cancel just one or too and put all of that money in a jar. This way you are still 'spending' the money, only you are paying yourself! At the end of the year/month/ time frame, see how much is in the jar and spend all that money on a plane ticket or trip! It will be worth it! Do not give up what you want most for what you want now. Ever since i've found that quote I have been thinking about it a lot, especially when it comes to spending money. Cutting back now can equal being able to afford a trip later, or what I want most, to travel. Good luck!

Destination of the Week: Boston, Massachusetts

I went to Boston a longgg time ago. I was in sixth or seventh grade I think so I do not remember much. I do remember that there we did a lot of historic things while in Massachusetts. We went to a reenactment of a witch trial which was interesting, we went to Plymouth Plantation and Plymouth Rock. Those are the main highlights I remember from our trip. The witch trial was cool, but it could be scary for young children. I really enjoyed Plymouth Plantation because all of the actors pretend that they are living back in the time period and act like they do not know what cameras or cell phones are if they see you with one. It was like stepping back in time and experiencing what it was like back then. Plymouth rock was a good stop to say that I saw it, but it was a little underwhelming. It was just a rock in a hole surrounded by a fence because tourists used to chip pieces of the rock off and take them as souvenirs. Now it has to be fenced in in a hole so people can not do that anymore. It was still a must see site to see in the area just to say I saw it. I would like to go back and explore the city and area more so I can remember more of it now that I am older.

Day Trip Ideas: The Beach

This may be hard to do for those of you in the middle of the country, but a day trip to the beach is a nice quick getaway. I live far enough away from a beach that I do not go there very often, but I do live close enough to have enough time to spend there if I leave early in the morning. Sorry to all of you who live in the middle of the country.....

A day trip to the beach is a nice change of pace to your day to day life. Lounging with your feet in the sand, taking a stroll down the boardwalk, getting into the hustle and bustle of things; there's nothing like it!

Pros/Cons to going on a Cruise

I have been on 2 cruises. One was to Bermuda and the other was to Alaska. On my cruise to Bermuda, we were at sea for 2 days, in Bermuda for 2 days, then at sea for 1 more day. In my opinion for this cruise I would have rather flew to Bermuda and been in Bermuda for 5 days. On my other cruise to Alaska, we went to a few different places. To me this cruise was worth it because we visited multiple destinations and the cruise was in a area that most places can only be accessed by boat or plane anyway. The only other cruise I see myself ever taking is probably to the Caribbean to multiple places or any other cruise where we got to a few different places and have limited days at sea.

Pros:
-visit multiple places
-FOOD EVERYWHERE (buffets, fancy places, free ice cream machines, drinks etc...)
-sunbathing on the upper deck (if it is in a warm area...)
-seeing all of the shows
-all the activities that are going on
-organized travel
-planned excursions

Cons:
-long at sea days when no activities sound interesting
-seasickness
-I just want to get to my destination
-all of the horror stories that have been coming up
-only leave from certain ports

I know some people love cruises, me I don't hate them, but it is more of a situation by situation basis.
